Outages

Your essential water is our essential work. At Ute Water, we work hard to maintain the freshest supply of water to the residents of the Grand Valley, ensuring outages do not occur. In the rare occurrences they do occur, we’re committed to keeping you up to date and in the know.

While we work quickly to reinstate water service, you can check this page for updates, along with our social media pages, where all updates are made in the original post. However, as our social channels are not directly tied to our outage reporting system, please report all outages to 970-242-7491.

When your water service is compromised, our crews work 24/7 to get your water reinstated. Depending on the repair, turning the water off may be necessary to keep our crews and the community safe.

In most cases, we will be able to provide an Estimated Reinstated Time (ERT), the duration of time we expect it will take to restore your supply after an outage. ERTs are updated accordingly as we get more information, keeping you as up to date as possible.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does Ute Water know I'm experiencing an outage?

If the outage is showing up on the above map, the outage has been reported and crews are responding.

Outages can be reported by calling our main line, (970) 242-7491, where Customer Service Representatives and After Hours Call Agents are waiting to take your call.

Why does my neighbor have water and I don’t?

It depends. Your neighbor may have a different water provider, such as the City of Grand Junction, Clifton Water District, or the Town of Palisade due to where they reside in our District boundaries. If they also have Ute Water as their domestic water provider, it could depend on which valve crews isolated to ensure they stay safe while making repairs.

How long will I be without water?

Water outages vary from 20 minutes to 12 hours. Most water main breaks take between 6 and 8 hours to repair, but can vary based on the availability of resources, complexity of the break, weather conditions and road repair requirements. Notifications and updates will state the estimated water outage duration for the planned work or emergency repair. While Ute Water and contractors strive to complete the work within the stated time frames, there are times when a longer outage may be required due to unforeseen circumstances. Crews work to reinstate water as quickly as possible.

Why do water outages occur?

Water outages are necessary to maintain and upgrade our infrastructure. They may be planned in advance or the result of emergency repairs. Ute Water has crews ready to respond to emergency breaks or leaks around-the-clock. During any type of water outage, Ute Water works diligently to reinstate water service as soon as possible.

What is the difference between a planned outage and an emergency outage?

Water outages are necessary to maintain and upgrade our infrastructure. They may be planned in advance or the result of emergency repairs.

Planned outages allow Ute Water to provide customers with reverse notification about the outage prior to it taking place. Typically, planned water outages are limited to one day and usually occur between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Emergency outages are unplanned, and are often the result of a rapid freeze and thaw cycle that causes soil to shift, putting increased pressure on infrastructure. Emergency outages also occur when water lines have been hit by contractors or homeowners digging.
